CARSON, Calif. — Men's soccer head coach,
Eddie Soto doesn't mince words when he talks about what he and his team of been through this season.
"It's been the hardest season of my six years at Dominguez Hills," he says. With road trips to Hawaii and the Pacific Northwest to kick things off, as well as some challenging playing conditions, the Toros have had a lot to deal with this season. But as the team heads toward the finish line, it seems to be hitting its stride, emerging from its early season challenges stronger than ever.
The Toros had a stellar October that including dominating wins over Cal Poly Humboldt and Sonoma State, as well as an entertaining 3-3 draw against Cal State San Bernardino at Dignity Health Sports Park Main Stadium. Now, as they head into the final game of the regular season, they're riding a ten-game unbeaten streak. Coach Soto credits his players with buying into a system that puts an emphasis on professionalism and hard work.
"We want our guys to push themselves to be the best we can be in everything we do," he says. That approach seems to be paying dividends.
Senior captain,
Michael McKibbin leads the team, as well as the entire CCAA conference, in both goals and assists. With the Toros leading the CCAA conference in total goals scored and average goals scored per game.
The Toros are also among the four CCAA teams listed in the first NCAA Regional Rankings of 2024, currently sitting tied for first place in the conference with Cal State LA and Cal Poly Pomona, the Toros will take on their biggest rival in the final regular season game on Thursday, November 7 at 2 p.m. at Toro Stadium, hoping that their growing momentum will lead them to a conference victory as well as success at the CCAA Championships and the NCAA tournament later this month.
Coach Soto is confident that his players are doing what they need to be doing to be successful.
"The approach our players have—their professionalism and hard work—is really paying off," he says.
