CARSON, Calif. — Cal State Dominguez Hills clinched the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) title with a decisive 3-0 victory over Cal State LA on Thursday at Toro Stadium. Goals from Diego Barahona, Logan Kaufman, and Michael McKibbin secured the Toros' 11th CCAA championship, marking their second title in the last two seasons.
The Toros struck first in the 8th minute when Barahona found the bottom corner following a well-timed assist from Kaufman. This early lead set the tone, and CSUDH maintained control throughout the game. Kaufman, who has been instrumental this season, added a goal of his own in the 32nd minute, converting a cross from Chris Briseno to extend the lead to 2-0.
In the second half, McKibbin sealed the victory with a 63rd-minute goal, assisted again by Kaufman, who tallied his second assist of the match. The Toros continued their offensive push, registering 12 total shots with five on target. Barahona led the Toros with four shots, three of which were on goal, including his opening goal that proved to be the game-winner.
Goalkeeper Arturo Magaña recorded his ninth shutout of the season, making one save and commanding the box against a Cal State LA squad that managed just one shot on goal. The Toros also dominated set pieces, earning eight corner kicks to the Golden Eagles' two.
With this victory, Cal State Dominguez Hills improves to 9-4-5 overall and finishes the regular season unbeaten in conference play with a 6-0-5 record. The Toros' win secured their place as CCAA champions, and they extend their legacy as one of the premier soccer programs in the conference.
"This season I presented our team with a difficult non conference schedule.I knew it would be beneficial to challenge them physically and mentally early on as the CCAA is always a grind. This group really embraced the lessons and to have an 11 game unbeaten streak to win the CCAA Conference is a testament of their resilience and perseverance." Head Coach Eddie Soto with words about his team and their stellar 2024 season.Â
The Toros will now be the #1 seed in the CCAA tournament and they will also receive a first round bye. Their next match up will be Friday, November 15th in Hayward, California for the semi-final game of the CCAA championships.Â
