CSUDH Plays No. 5 CSULA to 1-1 2OT Draw

Box Score
CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills faced its first true test of the young season as 5th-ranked Cal State L.A. paid Carson a visit, and the result was a 1-1 double overtime draw in the CCAA league opener for both teams, bringing the Toros to 1-1-1, 0-0-1 CCAA.  Andrew Marinez
scored the lone goal for the defending national champions.

Marinez started the scoring early from the left side of the CSULA net, taking a cross from Scott Locken and heading a 15-degree spear far post for a 1-0 lead.

That's where the score remained until the 53rd minute when Federico Cino bent a 20 yard free kick to the upper left post, beating CSUDH keeper Markus Dickerson for the equalizer.

The two teams combined for three shots in the two overtime periods, with each team nearly capitalizing on one-timers in the extra sessions.

The Golden Eagles outshot the hosts 14-11, and tied in corners at 7.  A physical contest befitting two schools just 20 minutes from the other, 20 fouls were called with three cautions issued.

CSUDH, now 1-1-1, 0-0-1 CCAA, continue CCAA hosting duties on Friday as CS San Bernardino pays Carson a visit, with first kick set for 4:30 pm at Toro Stadium, on the Track and Field Facility of the Home Depot Center.
