STOCKTON, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills true freshman
Troy Song shot a 5-over par on day one of the NCAA D2 West/South Central Regional, held at The Reserve at Spanos Park, a par 72 course.
Song's effort, competing as an individual, puts him in a 10-way tie for 90th place of 122 golfers competing.
The Temecula native fired a bogey on his first hole, but came back with back-to-back birdies to bring him to -1 after three holes. Song, however, shot bogeys on holes 4 and 5 before shooting par over the next three holes, and a bogey to complete the front 9 at 2-over.
Song shot par on holes 10-13 before a double bogey on hole 14 brought him to 4-over. The freshman regrouped with two pars on the next two holes, and finished with a 1-over on 17 and par on 18 to finish the day with a 77.
Cal State San Marcos' Liam Weaver sits atop the leader board with a 6-under 66, two strokes ahead of Colorado Mines' Lukas Taggart.
Song tees off at 1:20 pm tomorrow as day two begins.
