STOCKTON, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills junior
Aaron Sanchez was named the California Collegiate Athletic Association men's golf's Elite 13 Award winner, it was announced by the CCAA following the conclusion of the CCAA championship tournament this afternoon.
Sanchez, a Business Administration major, boasts a 3.820 grade point average and currently is in his fourth season of competition on the men's golf team. He finished tied for 11th as he helped the Toros to a 5th-place finish as the third and final day of the CCAA golf championships came to a close this afternoon.
This is the third Elite 13 Award earned by Cal State Dominguez Hills, following the 2023 selections of golfer Patrick Ordonez and softball's Kaylee Hull.
On the greens, Sanchez enjoyed his best tournament of the year at the Dominican Spring Invitational in early April, finishing tied for 4th and helping lead the Toros to the program's first NCAA Division II team championship in the 7-team field. Sanchez matched his best round of the year with a 4-under 68, finishing the tournament at 217, a 1-over par overall.
Today in the third and final round of the CCAA Championships, Sanchez shot a 1-under 71 to move up four spots, and was just one of six golfers overall to shoot under par in round 3.
Sanchez enjoyed rounds of par or better five times this year, including two rounds at Dominican.
The Elite 13 Award recognizes the academic and athletic achievement of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached competition at the Conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 13 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating in each CCAA-sponsored Championship.
