NORMAN, Okla. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Trent Fitzgerald and junior Aaron Sanchez were named 2025-26 NCAA Division II Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, it was announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

This is the first such award for the Toro linksters after they helped lead their squad to a fifth-place finish at the CCAA Championships last April, with Sanchez posting the highest finish for the Toros, ending the tournament in 11th place.  Fitzgerald placed 24th amongst the 41 participants.

Additionally, Sanchez was named the Men's Golf Elite 13 Award Winner by the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA), which recognizes the academic and athletic achievement of the student-athlete who achieved the highest academic standard amongst his or her peers.

Sanchez, a Business Administration major, boasted a 3.764 GPA, and is the second golfer to achieve the award, following Patrick Ordonez in 2023.

Fitzgerald, also a Business Administration major, boasted a 3.745 GPA in his final season of competition.

Overall, 209 NCAA Division II student-athletes from 77 schools earned the honor.  Fellow CCAA schools Cal State East Bay and Stanislaus State were the only other league institutions to earn the honor, boasting four and two recipients, respectively. 

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their associate's degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50% of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
