STOCKTON, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills true freshman
Troy Song put forth a strong showing on the front 9 on day two of the NCAA D2 West/South Central Regional with a 1-over 37, but found the back 9 a tough go after shooting five strokes over par to finish at 78 on the day, good for a two-way tie for 102nd.
Held at The Reserve at Spanos Park, Song's 78 today and yesterday's 77 gives him a 155 after two days of competition, 11 over par.
After a bogey to open his round, Song showed the consistency over the next eight holes that made him one of the fixtures atop the Toro rotation, shooting par to stay at +1 on the front 9.
He began the back 9 with another bogey and after shooting par on hole 11, struggled to a double-bogey on the next hole to bring him to +4. After a par, bogey and par brought song to +5, Song looked to regroup with a birdie to bring him up a stroke, but consecutive bogeys on the final two holes left him with a 6-over 78 on the day.
Western Washington's Conrad Brown took over the lead with a -6, heading into tomorrow's final round with a one-stroke lead over Cal State San Marcos' Liam Weaver, Colorado Christian's Bradley Mulder and Cal State San Bernardino's Kamron Hopson.
Song tees off at 8:20 am tomorrow to conclude his first foray in NCAA regional competition.
