No. 15 Metro State Makes Most of Opportunities in 2-0 Win Over Toros

Box Score

CARSON -- Visiting and 15th-ranked Metro State tallied a goal in each half, and that proved enough as the Roadrunners handed Cal State Dominguez Hills its fourth-straight shutout in a 2-0 decision, despite being out-shot 8-7 in the game.

Ida Eriksson tallied the most shots for the Toros, including a golden opportunity late in the second half that was saved by the Roadrunner keeper resulting in CSUDH falling to 0-3-1 on the year.

Coming off a disappointing loss at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday to begin their southern California roadtrip, the Roadrunners controlled the action from first kick, tallying a 4-2 edge in shots.

That aggression paid dividends in the 29th minute as Metro State's Noemy collected a free ball in the box and fired a half volley into the upper right corner past Toro keeper Jennifer Ackerly for a 1-0 lead, where it remained until the second half.

In the second half, the Toros became the aggressors, keeping Metro State on its heels to the tune of a 6-3 shot advantage.

Eriksson had the first golden opportunity to knot the ame, but MSU keeper Breanna Flores denied the freshman at the goal mouth at 73:22.

Junior Sami Feinstein then took her shot, staving off a Roadrunner defender as she made her way to the goal, only to pull her shot wide of the post to keep the Toros still looking for their first goal of 2014.

Taking advantage of that momentum, MSU scored a terrific goal courtesy of Tess Hagenlock to put the game away.

Challenging a Toro defender at the 18 yard corner, Hagenlock collected a pass that went off the defender, beat another coming to help and bested Acklery to the far upper corner at 82:56 to conclude the scoring.

Despite being out-shot in the second half, Metro State tallied 3 corners to nil for the Toros.

CSUDH will look to get on the board and in the win column on Wednesday as Azusa Pacific visits Toro Stadium for a 6 pm first kick.
