SAN FRANCISCO -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team got the proverbial monkey off its back after picking up its first California Collegiate Athletics Association match this afternoon at San Francisco State, roaring back from a two-goal deficit behind a pair of scores from
Alexis Delgado.
With the win, CSUDH improves to 3-12 overall and 1-10 in CCAA play.
Things looked bleak after the hosts stormed to a 2-nil lead just 24 minutes into the match.
Unlike eight of their last 10 matches in which the Toros failed to answer, today was different as Delgado cut her team's deficit in half after an unassisted score at the 33:50 mark.
Less than 11 minutes later, Delgado doubled her pleasure while taking a bite out of the Gators' momentum after taking a feed from Sophia Castro and blasting her shot past the SFSU keeper for the equalizer with just 20 seconds left in the first half.
That's where the score remained until the 60th minute when
Kendall Griffin tallied the game-winner, finding the back of the net for an unassisted score and a 3-2 lead.
The Toro defense and keeper
Marlies Nauman did the rest, limiting SFSU to just two shots the rest of the way, with Nauman stopping a potential equalizer in the 76th minute.
SFSU tallied an 11 to 7 edge in shots and a huge 7 to 2 advantage in corners, but the Toros won the only stat that mattered today in picking up the win.
CSUDH plays its final road match of the regular season on Saturday morning, taking on Menlo for an 11 am first touch.
