Toros Earn First Win of Year Behind "The Megan Show"

POMONA -- After being on the wrong end of five 2-0 decisions as part of going winless in its first 10 games, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team found out just how good the other side feels as the Toros earned their first win of the season in a 2-0 decision at Cal Poly Pomona behind goals from Megan Steinberger (pictured) and Megan Mahoney.

CSUDH now sits at 1-9-1, 1-3 CCAA, while CPP falls to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCAA.

Having been blanked in its three previous games heading into today's contest, the Toros found their offense early as Steinberger found space around the top of the 18-yard box and lined a shot post the Broncos' netminder in the 11th minute for her first goal of the year and a 1-0 lead, where the score remained heading into halftime despite CPP firing off 9 shots compared to just two for the guests.

That's where the score stood until the waning minutes of the game when CSUDH set up for corner kick.

With Gabrielle Pena taking that attempt, Mahoney found the ball amidsdt a slew of players crashing into the box, and slotted her shot into the net for an insurance goal in the 89th minute.

Once again CPP found itself with nine shots in the second half, but no shots were fortunate enough to go in as keeper Jennifer Ackerly registered nine saves in the win.

The Toros will head home next weekend for their annual contest on the Stub Hub Center's Main Stadium, hosting San Francisco State on Friday set for 4:30 pm.
