Pena's Precision Leads Toros to 1-0 Win Over Humboldt State

Box Score

CARSON -- Junior Gabrielle Pena tallied just one shot in tonight's game against Humboldt State, but made it count in a big way as host Cal State Dominguez Hills upended visiting Humboldt State by a 1-0 count to claim its first home win of the year.

CSUDH improves to 2-11, 2-5 CCAA and into a tie for 9th place, overtaking HSU which dropped to 6-7, 1-6 CCAA.

Although the Toros out-shot HSU 5-2 in the first 45 minutes of play, neither team was able to find the back of the net.

That all changed after intermission, however, as Pena gathered a loose ball on the left side of the pitch, and launched a low line drive rocket from 25 yards out that screamed past HSU keeper Amber Woolcock and into the lower right corner of the net.

The two teams amped up their offense with seven shots each after the break, but Pena's blast proved to be the game-winner as CSUDH picked up its second win in its last four games.

CSUDH will conclude its regular season homestand on Sunday as No. 8 Sonoma State vists Toro Stadium for an 11:30 am first kick.  Prior to the match, the Toros will honor five seniors playing in their final game in Toro Stadium.
