Martin's First Goal as Toro Gives CSUDH 2-1 Win at CS Monterey Bay

Box Score

SEASIDE -- True freshman Jayma Martin's first goal as a member of the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team was a timely one as her score in the 81st minute broke a 1-1 tie to give CSUDH its second-consecutive 2-1 decision, this time over host Cal State Monterey Bay.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 3-2, 2-1 CCAA, while CSUMB drops to 2-3, 1-2 CCAA.

After assisting on Sunday's golden goal against Cal Poly Pomona, Martin took matters onto her own feet against the Otters as she took a breakaway feed from Kristen Osuna in the 81st minute and beat CSUMB keeper Lily Garza for the go-ahead score and the eventual game-winner.

This score broke a 1-1 tie after Olivia Patterson started the scoring at the 6:01 mark, collecting a cross and punching it home for the quick lead.

CSUMB, however, equalized just 44 seconds later after Natalie Argueta collected a corner from Regan Porteous and sent a feed to Jamie Murray, who sent her shot past CSUDH keeper Jennifer Ackerly for the equalizer.

The Toros dominated the 90 minute contest, more than doubling their opponents total shots (13-6) and shots on goals (7-2), whie taking less corners (9-3).

CSUDH's defense shined as CSUMB made Ackerly make just one save, while Garza was forced to save five balls.

Martin led the Toros with five shots, including three on goal.

The Toros will look to make it three-straight on Friday as they travel to San Francisco State to take on the Gators, with first kick set for 2:00 pm.
