Toros Get Offensive in 7-0 Win at Humboldt State

Box Score

ARCATA -- After scoring eight goals over their first eight games this year, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team erupted for seven scores in a dominating 7-0 win at Humboldt State this afternoon.

The seven scores marks the most goals scored by the program since an 8-0 road romp over Cal State Monterey Bay in 2005, with a Caitlin Peterson score in the 14th minute starting the deluge.

With the win that breaks a two-game skid, CSUDH improves to 4-4-1, 3-3-1 CCAA.

The Toros dominated the contest, taking 33 shots to 6 for the Jacks, with a 24-2 advantage in shots on goal.

CSUDH also netted 6 corners to HSU's 1 as the two Jack keepers were forced to make 17 saves compared to just two for Toro keeper Jennifer Ackerly.

Peterson started the scoring after a cross at 13:44, guiding her shot into the net's lower left.

Jayma Martin then controlled a rebound off Janelle McGee's attempt, and blasted it past HSU keeper Amber Woolcock for a 2-0 lead in the 29th minute.

Sami Feinstein made it 3-0 five minutes later from 15 yards after collecting a loose ball to close the first-half scoring, with Natalie Barbosa opening the second half with a 20-yard blast three minutes in.

A pair of goals three minutes apart by Olivia Patterson and Sara DelaCruz made it 6-0, with DelaCruz's goal the first of her career.

Brenda Rodriguez followed suit with the first goal of her Toro career in the 72nd minute to close the scoring, and give the Toros the dominating win.

CSUDH will face a stiffer challenge on Sunday as Sonoma State awaits the Toros, with first kick set for 11:30 am.
