Murphy Strikes Again as Toros Blank Seawolves, 1-0

Box Score
CARSON -- Continuing her torrid scoring streak that has seen her score four of the team's past five goals, junior All-American Jessica Murphy did it again to visiting Sonoma State on an overcast and drizzling morning, pushing CSUDH to a 1-0 win and 10-3-1, 8-3-1 CCAA marks.

Dominating the first half with 9 shots compared to SSU's 1, neither squad was able to find the back of the net, with Seawolf keeper Alexis Sciacqua making 6 saves compared to just one by her counterpart Alyssa Congdon.

That all changed after another one of head coach Joe Flanagan's inspiring halftime pep talks as the Toros executed a set piece masterfully to notch what proved to be the game's lone score.

In the 75th minute, after Murphy raced past the ball on a direct kick, Taylor Canatsey delivered her pass to Lexi Ford, who switched it to a streaking Murphy, who delivered a quick one-touch past Sciacqua for the score.

The Toros finished with a resounding 19-5 shot advantage and 11-2 edge in corners, sending the Seawolves to a 2-8-3, 1-8-3 CCAA record.

CSUDH next takes to the road on Wednesday as it faces cross-town rival Cal State L.A. for a 7:00 pm prime time match-up.
