Vasquez's Overtime Score Gives Toros 2-1 Win at Humboldt State

Box Score
ARCATA, Calif. -- Freshman Allyssia Vasquez was at the right place at the right (over)time against host Humboldt State this afternoon, collecting a flick in mid-air and punching her header past HSU keeper Kelly Sandberg at the 95:54 mark to give the Toros a hard-fought 2-1 win over the 'Jacks, Vasquez's first goal of her college career.

Freshman Lexi Ford got the Toros on the board first in the 31st minute, getting great position in front of the HSU goal and heading her shot from 5 yards out for a 1-0 lead at 30:33.

That's where the game remained until the second half when Kim Carroll collected a Toro defensive miscue 30 yards out and, after dribbling to the 18, placed the ball past CSUDH keeper Alyssa Congdon inside the far post to tie the game at 1-1, where it remained through regulation.

It took just over five minutes for the Toros to strike in the extra frame as Vasquez connected for CSUDH's second header in the game for the golden goal, sending the Toros back to Carson with a northern California sweep.

CSUDH edge the 'Jacks in shots, 13-9, but were out-cornered 6-4.  Congdon finishd with 3 saves on the afternoon, compared to Sandberg's 8 in the HSU loss.

The Toros, now 9-6, 8-4 CCAA, return home for their final CCAA regular season men's and women's doubleheader on October 16, hosting perennial powerhouse UC San Diego for a 7:00 pm primetime match-up, as part of "Homecoming" festivities.
