TURLOCK, Calif. -- Despite improving by six strokes on the second and final day of the 51st Hanny Stanislaus Invitational, the Cal State Dominguez Hills golf team stayed at 11th place in the last tournament before next week's California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships.
CSUDHÂ improved 17 strokes between the first and second rounds yesterday, cutting six more shots off today's final team total to finish at 50 shots over par.
No. 34 Cal State San Bernardino claimed the team title by besting No. 29 Chico State in a playoff after the Yotes and Wildcats finished round three tied for the team lead at 8-under.
Troy Song made the biggest leap for the Cardinal and Gold, posting the fourth-lowest round on the day with a 2-under 69Â to move up 20 spots and into a tie for 41st overall (80-75-69-224).
Sam Song moved up 12 spots to also tie for 41st place after firing a 1-over 72 for a 224 (78-74-72), while
Trent Fitzgerald stayed at No. 41 after a 3-over par performance (78-72-74-224).
Aaron Sanchez finished in 59th with a 230 (78-76-76) with
Zachary Iwashita ended the tournament in 65th place with a 238 (82-76-80).
Next week's CCAA Championships will be held at the Reserve at Spanos Park, with first-round tee times beginning at 9:40 am.
