RIVERSIDE -- Cal State Dominguez Hills sophomore
Patrick Ordonez was named the men's golf California Collegiate Athletic Association's Elite 13 Award winner, it was announced by the CCAA following the conclusion of the CCAA championship tournament this afternoon.
Ordonez, a Business Administration: Marketing Management major, boasts a 3.750 grade point average and currently is in second season of competition on the men's golf team. He finished tied for 26th as he helped the Toros to an 8th-place finish as the third and final day of the CCAA golf championships came to a close this afternoon.
On the greens, Ordonez enjoyed his best round of the year at the Fujikura Invite in mid-February, firing a 1-under 71 en route to 30th place finish, his best of the year prior to this week's Championships.
He shot par on three other occasions at the Las Vegas Desert Classic, the Tim Tierney Invite and last week's NCAA West Region Preview, with his next best effort, a 1-over during the first round on Monday.
The Elite 13 Award recognizes the academic and athletic achievement of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached competition at the Conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 13 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating in each CCAA-sponsored Championship.
