ALAMEDA -- Sophomore
Andy Yoon took home medalist honors this afternoon as the 2nd and final round of the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout came to an end at the Chuck Corica Golf Complex.
The third and final round was canceled due to extremely high wins.
Yoon and two other golfers finished with identical scores of 136, but Yoon won out due to having the best back 9 score in the 2nd round, a 6-under par.
As a team, CSUDHÂ shot a 571Â placed 4th out of 15 schools competing with a 571, just 5 strokes behind team winner Cal State San Marcos.
Individually, Yoon shot a 69 to open play on the par-72 course, before shooting the lowest score in the 2nd round, a 67, to give him a 136 total. Holy Names' Luke Dugger and CSUSM's Greg Mouser boasted the same score after two rounds, but Yoon's precision on the back 9 earned him the win.
Joseph Sotelo (T11th, 71-71-142),
Andres Navarro (T24th, 72-72-144),
Patrick Ordonez (T55th, 77-72-149), and Francis Baustista (T79th, 77-78-155) rounded out the Toro quintet.
Yoon posted a -4 on the par 5 scoring holes, and drained an eagle to tie with seven others in that category.
The Toros take a week off before competing in the Hanny Stanislaus Invite at the end of the month.
