CCAA to Induct Men's Soccer All-American Tony Alfaro into 2023 Hall of Fame

CARSON – First he was called an All-American, then he was called an MLS Cup champion, and now Tony Alfaro can call himself a hall of famer.

The former Cal State Dominguez Hills men's soccer standout was selected by the California Collegiate Athletic Association on Wednesday as the conference's newest member of Hall of Fame. Joining Alfaro in the 2023 class are women's soccer Karenee Demery of Stanislaus State, volleyball Kim Ford of Cal State San Bernardino, track & field Sherri Howard of Cal State LA, men's golf J.J. Jakovac of Chico State, women's basketball Violet Palmer of Cal Poly Pomona, and softball Chrissy Stalf of Cal Poly Humboldt.

Alfaro also joins an elite list of Toros who have already been enshrined. Olympic hero Carmelita Jeter is part of the inaugural class in 2014, men's soccer legend Kevin Gallaugher followed in 2017, Chanel Parker heard her name called in 2019 and MLS veteran Kei Kamara became the most recent hall of fame inductee in 2020 until Alfaro's latest call.

A defender from 2012-15, Alfaro was a big contributor to an already decorated and historical men's soccer program at Dominguez Hills. The former captain was a three-time Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-West Region selection and a two-time United Soccer Coaches (formerly known as NSCAA at the time) All-American. The conference coaches voted him as the 2015 CCAA Defensive Player of the Year. It was during his senior campaign that year that the Toros claimed the conference title and was a finalist for the West Region title.

Seattle Sounders FC would draft Alfaro in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft and in his rookie season he contributed to the club's first MLS Cup win. Following a brief stint with Mexican powerhouse Chivas de Guadalajara and former United Soccer League club Reno 1868, Alfaro returned to MLS and joined DC United for two seasons. He signed a contract with New York City FC during the offseason.
