WAIKOLOA, Hawaii –
Howard Yoon scored an impressive 2-under 68 to lead Cal State Dominguez Hills after one of three rounds played at Hawai`i Hilo's annual Dennis Rose Invitational at the par-70, 6,566-yard Waikoloa Beach Course.
The Toros, playing on the Beach course for the first time since 2017 after playing four seasons at the Kings, currently sit in seventh place out of 12 teams.
Yoon is in third place and trails tournament leader Brian Nielsen of Cal State San Bernardino by two strokes. He was practically perfect in the front nine, making birdie in the first hole while making par the rest. He also birdied in the par-3 11
th hole, par-4 14
th, and par-5 18
th.
Andy Yoon had a solid performance on the back nine that got him to finish 2-over 72. He birdied the 15
th hole while making par in the others.
Patrick Ordonez finished only two shots behind him while
Steven Escobar carded a 75 and
Logan Miyamoto penciled in a 79.
The Coyotes and Western New Mexico as a whole lead the tournament with an even 280.
Round two is set to be played Tuesday morning.
