STOCKTON, Calif. -- Senior
Sam Song fired a 4-under 68 to conclude the first round of the California Collegiate Athletic Association men's golf championships, putting him in a 4-way tie atop the individual leaderboard and Cal State Dominguez Hills into a tie for 3rd place in team competition at The Reserve at Spanos Park, a par 72, 6,900 yard course.

After shooting par over the front nine's first three holes, Song bogeyed on the 4th hole but regrouped with a birdie on the 6th to get back to even. The South Korea native caught fire on the back nine, shooting a 32 with back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12 holes, 14th and 18th to claim his spot atop the leaderboard with Cal State Monterey Bay's Gavin McCornick, Chico State's Naoki Easterday (ranked No. 45) and Cal State San Bernardino's Kamrom Hopson (No. 68).
Song's hot finish put the Toros within striking distance of the team-leading Coyotes, who shot a 6-under 282. CSUSM sits second shooting even at 288, with the Toros and Wildcats seven shots behind the team leader with a 1-over 289.
Aaron Sanchez and
Zachary Iwashita sit tied for 12th after both shot a 1-over 73, with
Trent Fitzgerald sitting tied for 22nd (75) and
Troy Song tied for 24th (76).
