PETALUMA – The Cal State Dominguez Hills golf team combined for 311 in their third and final trip through Rooster Run Golf Club to finish the Sonoma State Men's Invite with a total of 933, placing the Toros eighth in the standings Tuesday.
Steven Escobar, competing as an individual, had a big turnaround in the third round with a 74, which was 14 shots better than his first result.
Dylan Hall led the effort within the five-man lineup with a 3-over 75 in the round, having birdied in the first and third holes while making par a dozen times. The senior ended up placing 38
th in the field.
Todd Henderson and
Raynard Belmonte also made birdies in two different holes as both of them scored 79s in the final round. Henderson ended up being the top finisher for the Toros at 22
nd place.
Kyle Campano finished three spots behind Henderson after scoring a 78.
Andres Navarro, another Toro who competed independently, carded an 81 and Jessee Peh rounded out the Toros with an 85.
The host Seawolves held on to win the tournament with a total of 888 but, in a big upset, Holy Names' Zachary McClure scored a par-72 for the second time to leap over both 38
th-ranked Devin Gregg and No. 59 Spencer Clapp to win medalist honors. Gregg, who ended the second round leading the tournament, was stunned in the third round with a 78 while Pace scored a 74.
The Toros will take on Loyola Marymount in a scrimmage at Industry Hills Golf Club Monday.
