LA Galaxy Sign Covarrubias to Short Term Agreement

CARSON - The LA Galaxy signed LA Galaxy II midfielder and former Toro All-American Alejandro Covarrubias, along with forward Jack McBean to Short Term Agreement deals ahead of yesterday's  fourth-round Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against La Máquina, which LAG secured in a 4-1 decision.

Covarrubias' signing makes him the third former Toro currently on an MLS roster, joining Kei Kamara of the New England Revolution and Tony Alfaro of the Seattle Sounders.

MLS clubs may sign players from their USL affiliate to Short Term Agreements (up to four-day contracts) for CONCACAF Champions League, AMWAY Canadian Championship, U.S. Open Cup, and exhibition matches. An MLS club may sign a player to a maximum of four short term agreements each season (maximum of 16 days).

McBean, 21, currently leads USL with 11 goals for LA Galaxy II on the season. Covarrubias has also made 13 appearances on the year for LA Galaxy II, recording one assist. The pair have helped Galaxy II earn a 5-2-7 record, enough for fourth place in the USL Western Conference.

An All-American for the Toros in 2013 in which he tallied 6 goals and 5 assists, Covarrubias did not see action in last night's contest, while McBean entered as a substitute in the 61st minute of play.

The Galaxy have recorded a 27-15-1 all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. They have entered the Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions. Last year, the Galaxy fell to Real Salt Lake in the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
