Otters Break Toro Hearts in 2-1 Overtime Decision

CARSON - Cal State Monterey Bay forward Regan Porteous snuck by the Toro backline with under two minutes left in overtime, and beat Cal State Dominguez Hills keeper and birthday girl Jennifer Ackerly to the 50/50 ball before delivering her shot to an empty net at the 98:26 mark to give the visiting Otters a 2-1 win.

The Toros drop to 1-11-1 and 1-5 CCAA as Johana Rosas (pictured) notched the lone score for the Toros, while the Otters improve to 6-5 and 3-3 CCAA.

CSUMB struck first after Shoshana Wangerin collected a missed Kristen Womack shot that was deflected, and put it past Acklery for a 1-nil lead at the 25:13 mark.

That's where the score looked to remain entering the half until the Megan show struck again late in the first session.  Megan Mahoney began the scoring run with a pass up the field to Megan Steinberger, who dribbled towards the middle of the field and sent a through ball to a streaking Johana Rosas.

In stride, Rosas beat CSUMB keeper Lily Garza to the ball and sent a chip up and over Garza's reach to knot the game at 1-1 with 1:23 left in the first half.

After out-shooting the Toros 8-5 in the half, CSUMB kept its foot on the offensive pedal, tallying a 7-2 advantage in attempts, only to see Ackerly deny the only three shots on frame, sending the contest into overtime.

In the extra session, Monterey Bay made its lone attempt count as Regan Porteous collecte a Cate Bagacina feed and slipped it past Ackerly for the golden goal.

CSUMB tallied a 16-7 edge in shots and 7-3 advantage in corners, with Rosas and Sami Feinstein tallying two shots each.

CSUDH will continue hosting CCAA action on Friday against Humboldt State, with the time and locale to be announced later this week.
