Toros Smash Record as 102 Student-Athletes Named to Fall 2013 Honor Roll

CARSON -- Women's soccer's Lindsey Armstrong notched straight As for the third-straight semester to highlight four Cal State Dominguez Hills student-athletes who earned perfect marks during the fall 2013 semester as a record 102 Toros were named to the Athletics Fall Honor Roll, smashing the previous record of 87 set in fall of 2012.

Armstrong was joined by teammate Caitlin Peterson as well as volleyball's Dana Brown and women's basketball's Arianna Hanson, with eight additional Toros earning at least a 3.80 GPA for a total of 13 student-athletes with the highest marks.

All 10 sports were represented in the spring tally as the baseball team tallied the most selections with 24, with women's soccer following with 18.

In fact, this is the first time in four years that a team other than women's soccer has placed the highest number on an honor roll after women's soccer held court over the past eight semesters.

Men's soccer followed with 16, with softball's 11 and track and field's 10 rounding out the double-figure sports.  Volleyball was next with eight, followed by women's basketball at seven and both men's basketball and golf at four each.

Percentage wise, 80% of golf's roster earned honor roll status, topping women's soccer (.563), baseball (.558), men's soccer (.552) and softball (.524) as five of 10 sports boasted at least half its roster making the fall honor roll.

This semester's 102 selections trumped last fall's mark of 87, with the fall 2011 semester honoring 84 selections rounding out the top three marks in the department's history.
