Toros Drop 2-1 Decision at Azusa Pacific

Box Score Box

AZUSA -- A pair of unassisted goals by host Azusa Pacific proved enough to take a 2-1 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills on a hot afternoon, despite a goal by senior Melanie DeSalvo.

With the loss, CSUDH evens its record to 1-1 on the year.

The Cougars got on the scoreboard first in an evenly played first half as Haley Williamson blasted a shot from 40 yards out that sailed over keeper Jennifer Ackerly's outstretched arms in the 18th minute of play.

That's where the score remained until the second half when Alyx Williams doubled the score by cleaning up a deflection on the left side of the box and beating Ackerly for a 2-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

DeSalvo made it interesting after converting on a penalty kick just four minutes later, but it was too little too late as Cougar keeper Sarah Klinkenberg made nine saves in the win.

DeSalvo took four shots to lead the charge as CSUDH outshot APU 23-18.

The Toros kick off CCAA play at home on Friday, September 13, taking on perennial power UC San Diego at 4:30 pm in Toro Stadium.
