Toros Take 2-1 Win Over Point Loma Nazarene to Open 2013

CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills senior Caitlin Peterson scored the second of two Toros goals to open the second half, and that was enough as CSUDH took a 2-1 win over Point Loma Nazarene to kick off the 2013 season.

With the win, CSUDH improves to 1-0 on the year, the fourth-straight year the Toros have won their season-opener.

PLNU, meanwhile, falls to 0-1 in 2013.

After a defensive first half in which there were just two shots taken, both by CSUDH, the Toros turned it on with eight shots compared to just three for the Sea Lions.

Newcomer Janelle McGee got the scoring started at 52:49, taking a long feed from Amanda Bolanos and one-touching it past PLNU keeper Lupe Herrera's left side.

Peterson doubled CSUDH's edge just six minutes later after taking a short pass from a Sami Feinstein-Clarissa Chavez connection, and beating Herrera to her right.

PLNU cut its deficit in half just five minutes alter on a Natalie Swift score, but the Toro defense held firm the rest of the way in the win.

Keeper Jennifer Ackerly made a save in the win, while Herrera tallied five saves in the PLNU loss.

CSUDH will try to make it two in a row on Saturday at Azusa Pacific, with first kick set for 5 pm in Azusa.
