No. 15 Seawolves Take Convincing 3-1 Win Over Toros

Box Score

ROHNERT PARK -- Two days after scoring seven goals and out-shooting their opponent 33-6, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team was on the wrong end of a not as dominating but equally effective result as No. 15 Sonoma State enjoyed a 16-4 shot advantage en route to a 3-1 win over the Toros on a partly cloudy Sunday morning.

Alexandria Gambala notched her first goal as a Toro as CSUDH dropped to 4-5-1, 3-4-1 CCAA.

Seawolf Melissa Lafranchi scored her third and fourth goals of the weekend, opening the scoring at 34:12 after corralling a rebound off a Lauren Fryer shot just seconds before putting it home.  Then, with six seconds left before halftime, the Seawolves added to their lead when Lauren Curtin took a pass from Margi Osmundson and broke away to fire a shot into the back of the net from 12 yards out.

The Toros battled back and cut the Seawolf lead in half at 63:06 when Gambala headed in a pass from Olivia Patterson from three yards out into the left side of the net, but the hosts scored an insurance goal with 1:07 left in regulation when Lafranchi struck again for the 3-1 lead and win.

At the final whistle, Sonoma State held significant advantages on the stat sheet, firing 16 shots to Cal State Dominguez Hills' four.  Twelve of SSU's 16 shots were on target, forcing CSUDH goalkeeper Jennifer Ackerly to make nine saves.  Only one of the Toros' four attempts was on goal -- the goal by Gambala in the 64th minute.

CSUDH will return home this weekend, hosting Cal State Stanisuals in the Stub Hub Center's Main Stadium on Friday, with first kick set for a 4:30 pm start.
