Toros Take Down Tritons in 2-0 Decision

Box Score

LA JOLLA -- Earning the primetime 7:00 pm start, the Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team showed it was worthy after taking a 2-0 win over perennial power UC San Diego on a cool and clear evening, with Olivia Patterson's goal in the 31st minute proving to be the game-winner.

With the win, CSUDH runs its unbeaten streak to two while improving to 5-6-2, 4-5-2 CCAA.  UCSD, meanwhile, dips to 5-5-3, 4-4-3 CCAA.

The game, played in front of an announced crowd of 461, was scoreless until the 31st minute when Patterson took a free kick at the 30:55 mark that eluded Triton keeper kelcie Brodsky and nestled into the bottom left corner, one of 11 shots the Toros took in the frame compared to zero for the hosts in the first 45 minutes of play.

Things heated up after the half as Gabrielle Pena was issued a red card just four minutes into the second half, leaving the Toros a woman down for the final 40 minutes of play.

Undaunted, the Toros continued their offensive charge to the tune of out-shooting the hosts 7-4 in the second half, with a rush paying dividends in the 71st minute.

At the 70:44 mark, a Natalie Barbosa shot from the right win snuck across the goal to give the Toros a 2-0 lead, with the Toro defense ever stingy while limiting UCSD to just a single shot on goal, one that was saved by keeper Jennifer Ackerly.

Conversely, the Toros forced Brodsky to make four saves as CSUDH tallied a dominating 18-4 shot advantage on the night.

The Toros will host cross-town rival Cal State L.A. on Sunday in their final regular season home game of the year at 11:30 am, after honoring seven seniors who will be playing for the final time in Toro Stadium.
