Toros and Pioneers Tie at 1-1 on Think Pink Day

Box Score

CARSON -- A header by Sami Feinstein from inside the 6-yard box in the 20th minute looked to stand up, but visiting Cal State East Bay equalized with under five minutes left in regulation to give the two teams a 1-1 deadlock after two overtime periods on "Think Pink" Sunday in Toro Stadium.

With the tie, CSUDH moves to 4-6-2, 2-5-2 CCAA, while CSUEB now stands at 3-7-2, 3-5-2 CCAA.

The game was scoreless until the 20th minute when an Olivia Patterson corner kick found Feinstein just inside the 6-yard box, where the junior midfielder sent her header up and over the outstretched and leaping arms of Pioneer keeper Donna Williams for a CSUDH 1-0 lead.

That's where the score remained until late in the second half when Megan Ravenscroft collected a rebounded shot off Sara Yamasaki, and punched in her shot in past Jennifer Ackerly from two yards out.

After an uneventful first overtime, the Toros had a couple of golden opportunities to end the game, including a point blank blast from Naomi Linares that Williams saved, one of her 12 on the day.

The Toros out-shot the Pioneers 29-14, with the two teams each taking nine corners.

Melanie DeSalvo and Gabrielle Pena paced the Toros with 5 shots each, with Linares placing 3 of her 4 shots on goal.

CSUDH will take to the road on Friday at perennial power UC San Diego before concluding its regular season home schedule on Sunday against Cal State L.A., where they will honor seven seniors prior to the 11:30 am first kick.
