Former Standout Keeper Kyle Polak Re-Signs With Hammerheads

Former Toro standout keeper Kyle Polak re-signed with the Wilmington Hammerheads
WILMINGTON, North Carolina -- Former Cal State Dominguez Hills standout keeper Kyle Polak re-signed with professional soccer's Wilmington Hammerheads, it was announced earlier.  This is Polak's second stint with the club after playing from 2007 to 2009.

"I am very happy to be back and playing for Wilmington," begins Polak.  "It is a great city and club to play for and the fans are some of the best in the league.  I can't wait for the league to start."

Originally from Huntington Beach, Polak posted a 1.22 goals against average in 2009 when the Hammerheads were named regular season champions.

Polak played for the Toros from 2004-06, posting 24 career shutouts and earning 44 wins over his three-year career, putting him at the top in both categories in the CSUDH record books, as well as in the 5th position for career GAA.

He also holds the 8th and 9th positions for GAA, the 5th, 7th and 9th spots for wins and the 6th, 7th, and 9th spots for shutouts in a single season en route to 1st-team All-CCAA honors in 2006, and two 2nd-team All-CCAA honors in his first two years in Carson.

Founded in 1996, the Hammerheads enjoyed a great deal of on-field success, reaching the playoffs in 10 of 14 seasons and capturing the 2003 USL Second Division title.  They also pulled off some memorable upsets in the U.S. Open Cup, knocking off MLS sides Dallas Burn in 2003 and Chicago Fire in 2009.

The Hammerheads open up the 2011 campaign on Saturday, April 16, against the Rochester Rhinos in Legion Stadium.
