Jordan Rover and the Toros went from ecstasy to agony in 1:23 as SPU took a 2-1 overtime win
Box Score
SEATTLE, Wash. --  Numerology reared its head tonight in favor of Seattle Pacific in the first round of the NCAA West Region Tournament as top-seeded and No. 13 Seattle Pacific took a 2-1 overtime win over a game Cal State Dominguez Hills squad with Christopher Morris knocking home the golden goal on the Falcons' 13th shot of the game.

The resilient Falcon squad shook off Jordan Rover's equalizer at the 89:56 mark by scoring its golden goal just 1:19 into overtime to send the SPU to Saturday night's NCAA West Region title game against No. 17 Cal State L.A., which advanced with a 4-1 PK edge over Chico State in the early game.

In temperature dipping to the mid-40s in which an announced 532 were in attendance, the loss ends CSUDH's season at 12-6-2.

The host Falcons were just four seconds away from winning in regulation when Rover got behind the SPU defense and found the back of the net to bring CSUDH to a 1-1 tie and into overtime.

Just 1:23 after Rover's heroics, however, Evan Robicheau floated a free kick from 35 yards out to the front of the Toro net, where Morris sent his header just inside the post and into the upper left corner for his first goal of the year, a score that sends SPU to the NCAA West Region Title Game against the CCAA Champion Golden Eagles.

"We knew that set pieces were their strength," begins head coach Joe Flanagan, "and it was two set piece goals for them that hurt us, so that was frustrating."

Seattle Pacific took the lead when Jon Pearman ripped a 15-yard shot from inside the penalty area on the right side into the back left corner just 8:45 into the game, which is where the score stood until Rover's equalizer.

"I thought we played very well tonight," Flanagan continues.  "To come up here and play on their home field and dominate possession for the most part says a lot about this team and how it has come a long way and grew up really quick this year."

Seattle Pacific took a 13-12 shot advantage over the Toros and a 3-1 edge in corners, with each side saving 3 shots and committing 16 fouls.

"Our younger guys grew up on the fly and to get to the regionals with a team that was beat up with injuries and guys playing out of position at times," Flangan concludes.  "I am extremely proud of them, more than many teams I've had in the past."
