CARSON -- The visiting Lions of Vanguard University managed 16 shots on the night, but with only four on frame were no match for the No. 4 Cal State Dominguez Hills women's soccer team whose five on frame, including Paige Peel's penalty kick in the 40th minute, gave the Toros a 1-0 win.

The game appeared heading into halftime scoreless until Vanguard was whistled for a hand ball inside their box, giving CSUDH a penalty kick opportunity.

Junior All-American Peel then stepped up and calmly place her shot past a diving Chelsea Lesniak at the 40:23 mark, giving the Toros what turned out to be the only goal they would need.

Vanguard continued to pressure the Toros defense, missing by inches on a few opportunities, but fell to 1-1-1 with the loss despite out-shooting CSUDH 16-10.

Senior keeper Alyssa Congdon celebrated her birthday by making four saves en route to her second-consecutive shutout, while Lesniak matched that total with four saves of her own.

The Toros, 2-0 to start the season, will kick off CCAA Conference action next weekend at Cal State East Bay on Friday, September 10.
