CARSON -- Visiting UC San Diego and Cal State Dominguez Hills put on another classic on the pitch at Toro Stadium, and the result once again favored the Tritons after UCSD escaped Carson with a 2-1 nail-biter to sweep the regular season series.  Junior Jessica Murphy tallied the lone score on the night for CSUDH.

The well-played contest featured two of the top team in the nation, and was a chance for the Toros to redeem themselves after a 3-0 loss to UCSD earlier this season.

UCSD, however, had other ideas as Sarah McTigue was the beneficiary of a scrum inside the Toro zone, and took advantage of a deflected ball off Anne Wethe by slotting her shot past Toro keeper Alyssa Congdon for a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute.

Murphy countered at 71:06 as she collected a loose ball 10 yards from the Triton goal, dribbled around a pair of UCSD defenders and sent a screamer by Triton keeper Kristin Armstrong for CSUDH's first goal of the year against the Tritons.

The junior All-American nearly gave CSUDH the lead with seven minutes left in regulation as Kayley Evans dribbled down the right side and sent a cross behind UCSD's defense, but a streaking Murphy was unable to collect the hard liner, keeping the game knotted.

That missed opportunity proved costly as Lindsay Mills collected a loose ball in the Toro zone two minutes later and hit paydirt for her first goal of the year, and the eventual game-winner.

UCSD's win gives the Tritons an overall 18-16-5 edge in the all-time series between the southern California rivals, with perhaps one or two more meetings between the two teams in the postseason.

Armstrong finished with 4 saves compared to 1 for Congdon, as the Toros out-shot UCSD 10-4.

The Toros, now 7-3-1, 5-3-1, fell to third place in the CCAA south behind the Tritons, and will look to regroup on Sunday against Cal State East Bay, which lost 3-0 to south leader Cal State L.A. earlier today.  First kick is set for 2:00 pm, with the game being available on live video here.
