History Made as Warriors Gain First Win Ever Against Toros in 3-2 Decision

Box Score
TURLOCK -- It was bound to happen.  After going winless in 16 games between the two teams, Cal State Stanislaus scored with 32 seconds left in regulation, and that was enough to give the Warriors a 3-2 win over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills, its first in 17 games. Taylor Canatsey and Yadira Gomez tallied the scores for CSUDH, which saw its five-game unbeaten streak snapped.

Canatsey continued her scoring surge in her first year as a Toro, taking a Jessica Murphy feed and whistling her shot past CSUS keeper Millie Brown for a 1-0 lead just 13:14 into the contest.

That edge lasted less than 20 minutes, however, as Alexia Poon equalized after taking a deflection in front of the Toro box and sending it past Alyssa Congdon to bring the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

CSUS needed just eight minutes after the break to take the lead as Briana McClain took a Marissa Dunaway feed and beat three Toro defenders and Congdon in the 54th minute, only to have Gomez reply five minutes later after a Melissa Livergood dish in the 59th minute.

The game looked to be heading into overtime until a Dunaway cross found Karenee Demery in the mouth of the Toro goal, who proceeded to send her header past Congdon with just 32 ticks left.

In an evenly played match between two leaders in their respective divisions, the Warriors tallied 20 shots to CSUDH's 19, with the Toros holding a 6-5 edge in corners.

Congon finished with 6 saves while Poon ended with 4 for the Warriros, who improved to 8-2, 6-2 CCAA.

The Toros will return home next weekend for a south division showdown with UC San Diego, with first kick set for 7 pm in Toro Stadium.
