Toros Unable to Break Through in 2-1 Loss to Golden Eagles

Box Score
CARSON -- Visiting Cal State L.A. made it a regular season sweep over its cross-town rival after scoring two unanswered second-half goals in a 2-1 win, with Jessica Murphy accounting for the Toros' lone score in the loss.

Unlike Wednesday's meeting in which the Golden Eagles scored three goals in the first 25 minutes of play, Murphy got the Toros on the board first after being in the right place at the right time as she collected a loose ball after a scrum and sent home her shot for a 1-0 lead just before halftime.

That was as good as it got for the Toros, however, as Cal State L.A. knotted the game in the 59th minute on a Lisa Ohberg goal, and then took the lead for good as Liz Franco sent a pass into Alex Conley, who dribbled past two Toro defenders and sent a high blast past CSUDH keeper Alyssa Congdon for the game-winner at 77:52.

Congdon finished with 4 saves on the night, while counterpart Gabriella Batmani managed 3 in her second win over the Toros in four days.

Prior to the contest, the Toros honored this year's recipients of the annual "JT Minami Scholarship" in men's player Miguel Vargas and women's player Paige Peel.

The loss drops the Toros to a 10-5-1 overall mark (8-5-1 CCAA).  CSUDH will next see action this upcoming weekend as they host Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, October 29th at 4:30pm.
