History Unveiled for 2008 NCAA Champion Men's Soccer Team

Carson, CA -- The feel-good story of the year thus far just got a little better last Friday, as the NCAA Champion men's soccer team had its banner unveiled Friday night in the Torodome in front of a packed house.

Winning its second NCAA title in eight years, head coach Joe Flanagan, associate head coach Jeff Tuttle, and the 2008 team were honored in between the women's and men's basketball games against Cal State Stanislaus.

The ceremony began with a few words from CSUDH VP of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs Sue Borrego and CSUDH Athletics Director Patrick Guillen, before coach Flanagan, his coaching staff and players were introduced to the crowd, and received certificates from Jostens, in lieu of the NCAA Championship rings, which will arrive shortly.

After Flanagan said his thanks, the Torodome lights gave way to a spotlight highlighting the banner, which was covered by a black drape.

With U2's "Beautiful Day" blaring in the background, Flanagan and co-captains Kevin Gallaugher, Kyle Holland and Alberto Garcia all took hold of two fishing lines hanging from the eyelets and pulled down simultaneously, revealing the 2008 NCAA National Championship banner to a round of thunderous applause.

The Torodome was then illuminated with camera flashes from the team as well as Toros supporters in the stands, all wanting to capture the historic moment themselves.

With the women's team taking a convincing 60-46 win over the Warriors prior to the ceremony, and the men's team duplicating the women's effort with an 86-63 thumping of CSUS in the late game, it was a "beautiful day" indeed.
