Boyle's Header Connects With :02 Left as Toros Stun Cal State San Bernardino, 1-0

Box Score
Carson, CA -- Sophomore Kristan Boyle headed home a cross from Jessica Murphy with two seconds left in regulation to give the Toros a wild 1-0 win over visiting Cal State San Bernardino on a cool Friday night, giving evening CSUDH's overall record at 5-5, 3-2 in CCAA play.

The visitors had the game's first opportunity in the 10th minute when Kristina Gomez fielded a breakaway and hammered her shot towards CSUDH's goal, only to be stoned by Toro keeper Alyssa Congdon

CSUSB continued its offensive assault after the break as a through ball found its way by four Toro defenders to a streaking Gomez, whose shot was again speared by a diving Congdon.

Yvonne Vasquez tallied CSUDH's first good luck in the 67th minute when she gathered a loose ball near the mouth of the Coyote goal, only to shoot wide.

The Coyotes answered in the 71st minute on a direct kick by Lisa Montgomery, but Congdon again was up to the challenge, keeping zeros on the scoreboard.

That's where it remained until the 90th minute when Murphy delivered a corner kick that Boyle met head on, thrusting her shot past oncoming CSUSB keeper Laura Lyons as regulation wound down for the first goal of the season, and of her career.

Congdon was stellar in goal with 4 saves on the night, while Lyons tallied 6 in the Coyote loss.  CSUDH gained an 11-9 shot advantage with an 8-5 edge in the second half, and out-cornered CSUSB 7-0.

The Toros continue CCAA play on Sunday afternoon as Cal Poly Pomona visits Carson, with first kick set for 3:00 pm in Toro Stadium at the Track and Field Facility at the Home Depot Center.
