ALISA VIEJO, Calif. -- Cal State Dominguez Hills freshman sensation Marisa Dominguez has been named the FloCollege/CCAA Softball Player of the Week of February 9-15, it was announced by the California Collegiate Athletic Association. This is Dominguez's first career CCAA Athlete of the Week award.
Dominguez batted a robust .714, going 10-for-14, in leading the Toros to a 4-0 mark while outscoring teams 38-7 in the process. She collected two doubles, drove in six runs and scored six times in leading the CSUDH offensive juggernaut.
At Azusa Pacific on Friday, the outfielder from Chino Hills enjoyed a huge nightcap with five RBI that included a bases-clearing double in the seventh to put the game out of reach. The Toros swept APU, taking both games on the road by scores of 11-1 and 12-2. Returning to Toro Diamond the next day, Dominguez provided lots of love to the Toros offense as she went a perfect 7-for-7 in the twinbill sweep over Vanguard on Valentine's Day. She enjoyed a 4-for-4 outing in game one with a run scored and was 3-for-3 with an RBI, scoring twice and adding a stolen base in the finale.
After a breakout weekend, Dominguez now sits in fifth in the CCAA in scoring (14 runs) and seven with 19 hits. She leads the Toros offense, which ranks second in the conference with a .349 team batting average.
Cal State Dominguez Hills, which improved to 11-5 after six-straight wins, is scheduled to host Biola for a doubleheader on Tuesday, with game one set for a 12 noon start.
