Box Score 2 CARSON -- The red-hot Cal State Dominguez Hills softball team ran its win streak to six-straight games after taking 5-3 and 10-1(5 innings) wins over visiting Vanguard University today on Toro Diamond, with
Marisa Dominguez enjoying a 7-for-7 effort with 3 runs scored and an RBI and
Mireya Rico (pictured) following suit with a 4-for-6 performance with one run scored and four RBI.
The Toros improve to 11-5 on the year and have outscored opponents 38-7 over their last four contests.
After
Torie Au began the scoring in the opener with an RBI single in the bottom of the 1st, she brought home CSUDH's second run with a sacrifice fly two innings later.Â
In that same inning,
Audrey Gallegos was hit with the bases loaded to bring in another run, with
Alyssa Martinez following by drawing a walk to bring home another for a 4-1 lead. After a Lion pitching change,
Gaby Gandara brought home the fourth run of the inning with a single to left to provide another insurance run for the Toro pitcher.
That was plenty for
Nadia Juarez, who scattered eight hits in the complete-game win to pick up her fourth win of the year, with
Ashley Goodale connecting for two hits to aid the Toro offense.
The nightcap was all CSUDH as the Toros took a 4-0 lead after three innings of play, with Rico and
Michaela Meza both driving in a pair of runs.
After Vanguard got on the board with a solo blast in the 4th, the Toro bats put the game away in their 4th-inning trip to the plate with six runs, with a 2RBI double by Rico providing the big blow, and setting the stage for the mercy run rule.
Makayla Bishop, Dominguez and Rico each enjoyed multi-hit efforts, with Rico driving in four and Meza two in the rout.
Gallegos went the full five innings for the win, fanning three while scattering just three hits.
CSUDHÂ hosts Biola University on Tuesday for a non-conference twinbill, with first pitch of game one set for 12 noon on Toro Diamond.
