CSUDH Athletics Welcomes Lekeisha Moore As New Track and Field Head Coach

CARSON – The Cal State Dominguez Hills athletics department welcomes Lekeisha Moore as the new head coach of women's track and field.

After spending three seasons as the track and field assistant coach with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Lekeisha Moore enters her first year with the Toros.

"I'm very excited to be joining the Toro family. I want to thank Mr. McCurdy for this wonderful opportunity to lead the Women's Track and Field program here at CSUDH," said coach Moore. "AVP McCurdy and the CSUDH family have been extremely supportive and hospitable from the moment I walked on campus. As a Southern California native, this is a dream come true."

Coach Moore continued, "I would also like to thank Glenn Stewart and the CMS staff for all the love and support they have shown me over the years."

Moore was named the USTFCCCA Men's Track and Field West Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023, after having a key role in the performance of the CMS sprinters. In particular, Christian Campbell was the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year after setting SCIAC records in the 100 and 200 meters, breaking CMS standards that had stood for 35 years. The Stags also broke school records in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, with the 4x400 team recording the fourth-fastest time in Division III history at the NCAA Championships to earn second place.

"We are excited about coach Moore and her family joining CSUDH athletics," said AVP/Director of Athletics Eric McCurdy. "After a very competitive search process, led by Dr. Kurt Patberg and Mammoth Consulting, coach Moore catapulted to the top. She is following a legendary coach and has embraced grabbing the baton to continue racing towards competitive excellence."

A standout athlete in her own right, Moore has had an accomplished career as a sprinter, representing the USA in the World Indoor Championships and earning three medals (two silver, one bronze). She had a top-five world ranking in the 60 meters on multiple occasions and earned a personal-best time of 7.09 seconds.

Continued Mr. McCurdy, "Coach Moore has amazing experience as a track star at UNLV, professionally medaling while representing the USA in the World Championships and competing in Olympic trials. Also, she was recently named Western Region Assistant Coach of the Year in 2023 at Claremont McKenna College. We can't wait for coach Moore to get going and use her skills and life experiences for the academic and athletic success of our student-athletes."

In addition, Moore twice competed in the Outdoor Olympic Trials in 2012 and 2016 and was a bronze medalist at the 2014 USA National Championships. She consistently ranked in the top 10 in the USA in the 100 meters and 200 meters, earning personal bests of 11.06 seconds in the 100 and 22.75 in the 200. She is one of only a few USA female sprinters to win medals in indoor and outdoor track in the same season.

As a relay member, Moore still holds the record at the World Athletics Relays in the 4x100 (41.88), which she anchored in 2014. She was also a 4x100 gold medalist at the NACAC World Championships and the Pan-Am World Championships in 2015 and was sponsored by Adidas for most of her nine-year career with USA Track and Field.

Moore coached with CYP Training and helped put multiple high school athletes in state meets, as well as contributing to scholarships earned by most of the athletes involved in the CYP sprint group over her six seasons. She also served as the head coach at Glendora and Bonita High Schools, coaching top sprint teams through CIF Championships.

Moore graduated from the University of Nevada-Las Vegas with a degree in journalism in 2009 and is a native of Victorville, California. Her husband, Carlos Moore, is a former World and National Junior Championship sprinter for USA Track and Field.

CSUDH Athletics is looking forward to the world of experience that coach Moore brings, enlightening an new era of Toros track and field.
