NAMPA, Id. - After a scintillating performance last Saturday earned Julian Diaz the CCAA's Pitcher of the Week honor, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association followed suit by naming the righty its West Region Pitcher of the Week, it was announced today.

Diaz threw eight strong innings in the Toros' win over Chico State on Saturday, helping CSUDH to a doubleheader sweep and staying in the hunt for a postseason tournament berth.

The junior from Hawthorne yielded just three hits in eight shutout innings. He struck out eight without issuing a walk. He faced the minimum number of batters in the first three innings before the Wildcats got a hit in the fourth. After that, Diaz retired the next 11 batters before allowing another single. Diaz struck out two batters in the eighth before exiting with 103 pitches.

Cal State Dominguez Hills wraps up its regular season schedule on the road at Cal State San Bernardino, beginning Thursday. The Toros, now 16-20 in CCAA and 1½ games behind sixth place, are looking to return to the CCAA Tournament.
