Toros Finish CCAA Championships in 8th Place

RIVERSIDE -- The Cal State Dominguez Hills golf team ended the three-day California Collegiate Athletic Association Championships in 8th place after shooting a collective 294 in today's round three to give the Toros a total team score of 876.

Top golfer Andy Yoon shot a 2-over 74 today to finish tied for 15th with a 217 (74-69-74), the best finish for the Cardinal and Gold.

Cal State San Marcos took home the team title with an overall 854, edging Cal State Monterey Bay by a single stroke and Cal State San Bernardino by two.

Despite getting off to a good start to open the Championships with a 286, CSUDH added 10 shots to its day two total, and eight more today for its total.

Joseph Sotelo, who sat tied for 3rd after day one, finished tied for 21 (68-78-76-218), with Patrick Ordonez (T26, 73-74-74-221), Andres Navarro (36th, 71-75-83-229) and Francis Bautista (40th, 74-0-74-148) rounding out the Toro quintet.

Chico State's Dakota Ochoa fired a 4-under 68 today that followed a stellar 6-under 66 yesterday to win medalist honors with a 206, besting CSUMB's Jack Deaner by two strokes.

As a team, CSUDH finished with the third-highest birdie total for the tournament, led by Yoon's 14, which put him a 4-way tie in that category.

Sotelo fared well on the Par 5 holes, shooting a -7 over the three days.

The CCAA announced its women's and men's Elite 13 winners, with Ordonez earning the honor, the first for the program and CSUDH in general.

CSUDH will have to wait until next Wednesday to see if Yoon will qualify for NCAA Regionals, scheduled for May 11-13, hosted by Sonoma State.
