Baseball Squanders Lead in 9-6 Loss to CS East Bay

Box Score CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills took a 6-0 lead heading into the top of the 5th, but visiting Cal State East Bay scored nine unanswered runs to take a 9-6 win in the opening game of the CCAA series.

Scott Ogrin went deep as part of a 2-for-3 effort in the loss, dropping the Toros to 17-18 overall, and 12-13 in the CCAA.

Coming off consecutive wins heading into today, the Toros started strong behind Ogrin, who belted a 2-run shot to dead center in the 1st inning and drove in Vincent Temesvary one inning later.

Anthony Accordino made it a 5-0 game with a 2RBI single in the 5th, with Miguel Marin extending CSUDH's lead to 6-0 by driving in Accordino, who advanced to second base on a Pioneer throwing error.

That's when the game turned as CSUEB plated five runs in the top of the 6th, the big blow coming on a 2RBI double and a Toro error.

The Pios took the lead for good two innings later with a pair of runs, and added two more in the 9th for the final margin.

Toro starter Nico Martinez cruised through 5.0 innings before allowing four earned runs, with the CSUDH pen combining for four earned runs, eight hits, three strikeouts and three walks.

The two teams play the middle games of the series tomorrow, with game one beginning at 12 noon on Toro Field.
