LA QUINTA -- Sophomore
Andy Yoon fired an even par 72 on the third and final round today to conclude the Battle in the Desert tournament, hosted by CS San Bernardino and Cal State Monterey Bay, and finish in a tie for 16th place with an overall score of 218 (69-77-72).
As a team, the Toros came in tied for 8th in the 16-team field, shooting an overall sore of 884.
Andres Navarro was the next highest Toro finisher, tying for 27th place (73-70-78-221), with
Francis Bautista (T39th, 74-77-73-224),
Patrick Ordonez (T53rd, 74-76-78-228) and
Joseph Sotelo (79th, 72-72-0-144) rounding out the quintet.
In team play, Cal State East Bay survived a head-to-head battle with the Coyotes, besting their fellow CCAA school by a single stroke. Co-host CSUMB came in third, just three shots off the Pioneer pace.
Coyote John Kim took home medalist honors with an overall 6-under 210, besting CSUEB's Easton Hether and Stan State's Nathan Jetton, who finished tied for 2nd with a 211.
The Toros fared the best amongst the schools on the Par 3 holes, averaging a 3.07 and shooting a +4 overall. CSUDH also excelled on the Par 5s, finishing at -17, good for a tie for 3rd place.
That success put the Toros 4th when it came to birdies, making 44 over the 3-day tourney.
CSUDH tees it up next at the Las Vegas Desert Classic next week, hosted by Missouri-St. Louis at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
