Coach Jennifer Adeva Announces Transition from Volleyball to Academia at CSUDH

CARSON –  The Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros are excited to celebrate the transition as Coach Jennifer Adeva, a figure synonymous with the Cal State Dominguez Hills Volleyball Program, steps into a new role within the university. After a distinguished tenure as the head volleyball coach, Adeva is looking to bring her wealth of experience and knowledge to the Department of Kinesiology.

Coach Adeva's journey at CSUDH has been marked by remarkable achievements, both on and off the court. With a record of 101 wins, the most by any coach in CSUDH volleyball history, her legacy is unparalleled. Her accolades, including nine All-CCAA Honorable Mentions, eight All-CCAA Second Team selections, and a well-deserved 'Coach of the Year' title in her second year as a Toro, reflect her exceptional leadership and coaching abilities.

"We are excited about Coach Jen's next professional phase of life," said AVP/Athletics Director Eric McCurdy. "I am happy for Coach Jen, her partner, and her family, as she has previously taught in the classroom and is excited about returning to teaching. She is the most successful coach in CSUDH volleyball history, and I want to ensure that she is always honored for that."

Mr. McCurdy continues, "I love Coach Jen and what she has done for this university and the volleyball program. We look forward to the next steps in the process of identifying a new volleyball coach who can continue the successes that have already been built by Coach Jen."

Her commitment to academic excellence was evident through the team's receipt of two USMC/AVCA Team Academic Awards, highlighting her ability to foster a balance between athletic and academic pursuits. Adeva's influence also extended beyond CSUDH, as evidenced by her roles on the NCAA Division II Women's Volleyball Head Coaches Committee and as an AVCA Top 25 Poll Voter.

"I want to thank Dr. Sue Borrego and Pat Guillen for giving me the opportunity 13 years ago to lead the Toro Volleyball Program" said coach Adeva. "I also want to thank the players (past and present) and the assistant coaches for their commitment and dedication, those positive contributions made a significant impact to our program."

Coach Adeva continues, "We enjoyed several successes we can be proud of and experienced many great memories together. It has been an incredible experience seeing our program and our athletic department evolve under Eric's leadership. I'm looking forward to transitioning into teaching in the Department of Kinesiology here at CSUDH. I wish the program future success and feel fortunate to be not too far away to see the program continue to grow."

This new chapter in her career is a testament to her versatile talents and her commitment to the holistic development of students at CSUDH. As she moves from coaching to academia, Adeva's impact on the university's athletic and academic communities will continue to grow.  The CSUDH community acknowledges her invaluable contributions to the volleyball program and eagerly anticipates her continued influence at CSUDH.  Her journey is a remarkable example of dedication, excellence, and the pursuit of new challenges.

CSUDH will begin an immediate national search for the next volleyball coach to take helm for the 2024 season.
