Toros Battle in Five-Set Road Loss to Cal Poly Humboldt

ARCATA, Calif. — Cal State Dominguez Hills put together a strong road effort Thursday night but came up just short in a five-set battle against Cal Poly Humboldt, falling 3-2 in CCAA play inside Lumberjack Arena.

Set scores were 23-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-18, and 15-11 as the Toros fought through a back-and-forth contest before the Lumberjacks held on late to secure the win.

Bailey Fuches led the way for CSUDH with 19 kills on a .485 hitting percentage, adding two solo blocks and a team-high 21 total points. Natalia Walden-Schulz added 11 kills, while Ava Hurry posted 10 kills and 12 digs. Anna Sanzaro and Cassie Taylor also reached double digits in kills with 10 each, showcasing the Toros' balanced attack.

Setters Jaiden Mojica and Giovannina De Sisto combined for 50 assists, with Mojica tallying 27 and De Sisto adding 23. Mojica also recorded 10 digs and three service aces, while De Sisto contributed six digs.

Defensively, libero Nina Robles made history breaking the school record for digs, she also had a season high 37 digs in this match, anchoring the Toro back line. Ally Sokolow also added 15 digs and three aces, providing a spark from the service line.

Despite the loss, the Toros displayed grit and offensive balance with five players reaching double-digit kills and maintaining strong defensive play throughout.

The Toros continue their Northern California road trip on Saturday, Nov. 1, at Chico State. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. in Chico.
