Toros Have a Better Day to Close Out Dennis Rose Invitational, Fall Schedule

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii – The 43rd-ranked Cal State Dominguez Hills men's golf team concluded its fall non-championship segment Saturday at the Dennis Rose Invitational. In the second round, the Toros turned in a better result at the 6,566-yard, par-70 Waikoloa Beach Course: a 4-over 284 to finish the tournament with a 22-over 582, placing 11th out of 16 participants.
 
The Toros finished 17 strokes behind winners No. 50 Cal State San Marcos and UC Colorado Springs, which share the tournament title.
 
Francis Bautista led the effort for the Toros individually, scoring a 1-under 69. He was perfect in the front-9 which included three birdies. In the back-9, he birdied the 12th hole and came up with par five times.
 
Joseph Sotelo came up even in the second round. Like Bautista, he was perfect in the front-9, highlighted with a birdie in the fifth hole. He also birdied a par-5 15th hole and made par six times.
 
Andy Yoon and Andres Navarro were also excellent in the front-9, which each one making birdies in two different holes. Yoon finished 2-over 72 while Navarro was 7-over par.
 
Patrick Ordonez scored a 3-over 73. He birdied the seventh and 18th holes while making par nine times.
 
Stanislaus State's Nathan Jetton won medalist honors, scoring a 5-under 135 in the tournament.
 
The Toros will take the rest of the semester off and resume in the spring starting with Cal State San Marcos' Fujikura Classic at Shadowridge Golf Course in Vista. That begins February 13.
