Women's Basketball Completes 2022-23 Roster with Seven Newcomers

CARSON – Cal State Dominguez Hills head women's basketball coach John Bonner has seven for seven. As he begins his seventh season at the helm of the program, Bonner greeted seven new faces to the team.

Joining the Toros for the 2022-23 campaign are Nala Williams, a 5-9 guard out of Long Beach Poly High; Ja-Naiah Perkins Jackson, a 5-6 guard transferring from LA Trade Tech; Malia Goldsmith, a 5-6 guard transferring from Cypress College; Allyah Cartajena, a 6-0 forward from Mt. San Antonio College; Joel Benoit, a 5-11 two-way guard/forward transferring from Morgan State in Maryland, Kierra Johnson, a 6-2 post from Santa Rosa College and Kylee Edgar, a 5-8 guard from Hesperia High.

We are really excited about this class. We focused on finding players that matched the culture that we have built here at Dominguez Hills. We wanted leaders that don’t shy away from hard work, that embrace perseverance and are passionate about the game overall.

We are extremely excited about Nala! She is versatile guard that has an extremely high IQ. Her ability to score the ball from the 3 levels and create for others will fit seamlessly into our offensive philosophy. Nala is a great person as well. Through all of her accomplishments thus far, she remains humble and hungry for even more success. She does a great job in the classroom as well. She has the potential to have an immediate impact for our program.

JaNaiah Perkins-Jackson
We are ecstatic to have Ja-Naiah join our Toro family. She’s an elite scorer who can also create that opportunity for others. She can shoot from beyond the arc and put a lot of pressure on defenders at the rim, despite her size. She is eager to to be coached and to connect with our team beyond the court. We look forward to her having a great career here.

We cannot wait to start working with Malia. She is an excellent shooter that has the ability to set her teammates up for easy points. She is a great addition to our depth at the guard position. She is all about the team-first mentality, and that fits into our Toro identity.

We are very fortunate to get Ally to come and play for us. She is a versatile forward that can play both inside and out. She can also guard every position on the floor. Ally has a team-first mentality and she will show it by leading by example. She's also driven and passionate about being a great student along with being a great player. Keep an eye out for her this season.

We can't wait to have the opportunity to coach 'Jojo.' We really liked her coming out of high school and we became even more excited when she decided to transfer to CSUDH. She is a really long and skilled forward who can play and defend multiple positions. She is all about having a gritty work ethic and blue collar mentality, which fits into our program.

Kierra Johnson
Kierra has a lot of potential coming in as a post player. She has the capability to make an impact to the game on the defensive end. This goes along with her great hands on the offensive end. She will create some unique challenges for our opponents with her speed and her length. She embraces the importance of being a committed student-athlete, and looks to do some great things in the classroom for us this year.

• 7.8 rebounds

• 2.0 assists

• 1.6 steals

Kylee is one of those players that every coach dreams to have in their program. She is a player that is willing to do whatever it takes for the team to win. She fills up multiple categories on the stat sheet and doesn’t shy away from making sacrifices from her individual game for the greater good of the team. She is tough as nails and will be a great asset for our program.

The Toros begin play with an exhibition at LMU on November 3. They then go on the record at the CCAA/PacWest Challenge held at Concordia University Irvine, starting with Biola on November 11 and then the host Golden Eagles the next day.
