POMONA -- No. 5 seed Cal State Dominguez Hills drained 12 of its attempts from 3-point land in today's CCAA postseason tournament's first-round match-up against No. 4 seed Chico State, but the Wildcats held the Toros to just 30% shooting from the floor as CSUDH fell in overtime, 75-70, ending its 2025-26 campaign at 12-16 overall.
Amaya Washington (pictured) poured in a season-high 17 points while
Anela Thomas added 12 rebounds in the loss.
The Toros were out-rebounded (43 to 34) and outscored in the paint (52 to 24), but won the battle of second chance points (22 to 16), blocks (6 to 2) and offensive boards (16 to 15).
Trailing 21-15 after the first 10 minutes of play, the Toros fared better in the second quarter, outscoring the Wildcats 16 to 11 to head into the locker room down 32-31.
The two teams both scored 13 points in third to set up what would be a frenetic fourth quarter.
A 3-pointer by
A'moree Ferrel to open the fourth gave the Toros a 47-45 lead, with a
Kylee Edgar tipin at the 4:38 mark pushing CSUDH's edge to 57-53.
With the Toros looking to pull away, the Wildcats lived up to their name, clawing their way to take back the lead on a 3-pointer by Madison Parry, who led all scorers with 26 points.
Tied at 63-all with 17 seconds left, the Toros missed a layup and survived two Chico State attempts in the final 10 seconds to send the game into overtime.
In the extra frame, the Toros led by as much as three points early, only to have the Wildcats answer and knot the game at 68-all with 2:35 left in overtime.
Thomas gave CSUDH its last lead with an ensuing bucket, but the Wildcats would run off five-straight points and benefit from four Toro misses and a turnover to take the thriller and advance to tomorrow's semifinal game.
Ferrell finished with 13 points and 2nd-team All-CCAAer
Bryanne Lopez-Wood 10, with Washington adding seven boards.
